Where do you start? Where do you develop your client list. Do you work with individuals or businesses or both?
Do you do all the work yourself or do you hire help? How much do you charge? It's your choice. You are the boss
now.
Since you are the boss, you are the one who gets to make these decisions. Think about the answers to these 3
questions.
1. Where do you find clients?
Here is a news flash. Everyone is a potential client. Everyone has homes, cars and offices that need cleaning.
The problem becomes what do you want to do? Homes are easy. You probably already know how to clean a home. You
clean your own after all. Cars are an often overlooked cleaning potential source of cleaning income. Cars are quick
and you can generally clean one much faster than you can a home and almost everyone has one. The downside of
automobiles is that they generally don't bring in as much income as homes or offices. Offices are great because
they generally pay more than homes and they don't tend to be as dirty.
The question is what do you prefer. Once you decide if you want to specialize in one area or if you want to
generalize and clean anything that is dirty, then you can go after your target audience. Put on your best outfit
and go out and see them. Visit your target audience, put ads in the paper where they can see, advertise online.
Craigslist is a great resource for you now. Talk to friends and acquaintances tell them about your new business and
then see if they can give you any referrals. Spread the word. People talking about you in a good way is like money
in the bank.
2. Do you do all the work yourself or do you hire help?
Once again this is up to you and how big are the jobs you are taking on. You also have to think about how many
jobs you want to do in a days time. Would hiring the extra help let you work on larger places or do more jobs
during the course of the day. After your expenses for the extra person, would you make more money? Do you want to
manage an employee? Do you want to grow your operation?
If the answer to those questions seems to be yes to you, then you need to think about hiring the help.
3. How much do you charge?
This really varies depending on the work you are doing and your geographical location. If you have never worked
for a cleaning service before then you will need to do a little research. Craigslist, newspaper ads and other
companies fliers are a great resource here. Just remember, what you are charging is right as long as you are happy
with your payday.
